Sweetwater Feed Company BOM finish

I really like most everything that Sweetwater fabrics does.  They do great text prints with pretty coordinating fabrics – I’ve made a lot of quilts from their collections.  When I saw this BOM that they were hosting a few years ago I signed up quickly!

I was slow to get the quilt done because the focus blocks required embroidery.  Now, I do love embroidery, but this was more outlining and highlighting the blocks rather than creating a new design on the fabric.  I think this BOM was from early 2015, then I took the blocks with me during a vacation in early-mid 2016, and finally forced myself to finish them mid-late last year.  I pieced the rest of the top during my January quilt retreat and just got finished with the quilting and binding.

As a funny note, I was trying to make sure I had the name of the fabric right so I was googling ‘Sweetwater Feed Company’ and wound up on their blog.  It seems this was a popular fabric line for them and this quilt in particular was a favorite.  Actually it looks like they sold kits for the quilt again between February 21 and March 8 of this year.  How strange that I would be finishing this quilt at the same time (see their blog post here).

Any way, here is the finished quilt:

I quilted it with an allover edge to edge design called Hot Cocoa.  I wanted it to be kind of soft and cuddly so I quilted it pretty big and loose.  I actually used a light blue thread on the front and back, but it is so light you could never tell.

Some close ups.  The kit came with this cool text print that are recipes.  I think they are real recipes that make some yummy goodies.

I like this block – it has red and blue embroidered highlights:

when you ordered the BOM they had you tell them your name and hometown so that they could send you a personalized block, which was cool:

This is the back – I just used a plain muslin.

and the binding – the plaid is really cool!

I’m happy how it came out and happy to cross it off my UFO list!
