When Paige Alexander (Quilted Blooms) and Cheryl Brickey (Meadow Mist Designs) asked me to be part of the blog hop for their new book, Modern Plus Sign Quilts, I was absolutely overjoyed. I’ve never done something like this before and was so honored they asked. I’ve followed both of them for some time and really respect their work.
They sent the blog hoppers photos of the quilts in the book and asked us to choose the quilts we were interested in. I had no problem finding a quilt I wanted to make – there were several! I looked at the quilts with an eye toward using a big bunch of Alison Glass fat quarters I had been hoarding…uh, saving…and think I found a good one with the Signature Plus quilt.
In the book the Signature Plus quilt has a red background with white plusses that can be used for signatures. Cool idea for a wedding or reunion quilt, and I love the red and white of the original.
However I decided to go full on color with my version!
This was my fabric pull. I considered white for the background, but went with a grey fabric instead. I tried out a few solid greys, but ultimately found this woven fabric that had a really great texture – it is a black Chambray fabric from Andover.
From there I made lots and lots (and lots!) of plusses. That kept me pretty busy for most of the holiday break. It seems I didn’t take many piecing-in-action photos, but I think you know what that looks like!
I got the top together reasonably quickly and was off to figure out a quilting plan. I really wanted to highlight the Alison Glass prints in the plusses, so I chose my quilting designs to pull the color plusses.
This is a close up of the quilting as I worked on it. I did diagonal lines between the big plusses, filled those with figure 8s, and then filled in the space around the small plusses with some free motion.
Here she is all finished – I call her Glass Plus:

We went for a weekend getaway to Northern New Mexico one weekend right as I finished the binding and I got to take some photos:
and this kind of funny outtake of my husband trying to hold it up – I don’t love the shadow, but the clouds are so pretty:
Thanks again to Paige and Cheryl for the opportunity to participate in the blog hop and the opportunity to make one of their quilts. I had a great time making the quilt and love how it came out!

What a beautiful version of the design, and I love the name you gave it. The quilting is stunning!
Thanks so much for your kind words. I was really stuck on the name and then I thought ‘Glass’…and ‘Plus’…well that sounds familiar!
After the sneak peeks on Instagram I get to see what it looks like – specatcular! i love it and the quilting is magnificent!
Thanks Sue! It was really hard keeping it under wraps for a few months. I had a good time quilting it and was really happy with how it came out. Thanks for stopping by!
Wow!! Those colours are so good with the grey, then came the quilting, mare fab than ever, and the photoshoot settings .The perfect places outdoors, truly wonderful, and your man to assist .Guess he has already asked for a raise in wages as ” Photography Assistant Extraordinaire”
We had a good time with the photo shoot, and believe me, he was well paid with wine! He is an extraordinary assistant.
Thank you for your kind words and for stopping by.
Great flow of colour in this quilt Ann . It’s hard for quilt holder uppers , they need long strong arms !
Thank you for your kind words. It was fun cutting my all my Alison Glass fat quarters and playing with the colors. Quilt holder-uppers do benefit from long arms, but both of us are really pretty stumpy! We do the best we can.
OMG this is just so beautifully made and quilted. I don’t even have words. Thanks for sharing this.
Hi Velda! Thank you so much! It was fun to make. Thank you for stopping by and your kind words.
I love this take on the signature quilt. It is so colourful. The Chambray background is the perfect choice.
Hi Lisa – thanks so much – I had a lot of fun with all the colors. I also had fun picking out the Chambray and was lucky to find such a good match.
Thanks for stopping by!
I love your quilt with bright colors and your quilting decision is outstanding. Well done!
Thanks Karen! I had fun with the colors, and more fun with the quilting.
Thanks so much for your kind words and for stopping by.
I love Glass Plus!! The Alison Glass rainbow fabrics just pop against the gray background and your quilting is stunning!! Thank you so much for taking part in the hop!
Thanks so much! I had a lot of fun making it. Thanks so much for including me in the hop.
Best of luck with the book!
Your quilt is stunning! I love the fabric choice and the colors really pop against the gray background color. Your quilting is just amazing.
Thank you so much! I’m so glad I went with the gray rather than the white. Thanks for your kind words about my quilting – it was a lot of fun to do. Thanks for stopping by!
I love your Alison Glass on grey version!!! Brilliant! Beautiful quilting, too.
Hi Nancy, thank you so much! I appreciate your kind words and your stopping by my blog.
Wow! Your full colour version rocks!! Love it!
Hi Peggy – thanks! The color was a lot of fun to play with and I love Alison Glass prints. This was a great project to try them out.
Thanks so much for stopping by!
The Signature Quilt was perfect for showing off all those fun Allison Glass prints. Those colors pop wonderfully against the gray background fabric! And your quilting is beautiful! It adds just the perfect background fun for the quilt.
Thanks! When Cheryl and Paige sent the book I searched for a pattern that would be good to show off all the prints and I think this was a good one. The quilting was a lot of fun too. Thanks so much for your kind words and for stopping by.
Really love all the color, amazing and the quilting, beautiful, love it!
Hi Rhona, thanks so much! It was a lot of fun to play with the color and the quilting. Thanks so much for your kind comments and for stopping by!
Love your colourful version! And the quilting is stunning!
Fabulous photographs too! A delight for my eyes this morning!
Thank you so much! I actually got a new camera for Christmas, so this was one of the first quilts that I took out to photograph. My skills aren’t that great, but you can’t go too far wrong on a nice day in northern New Mexico!
Thanks so much for stopping by.
Stunning! The rainbow colors give this Signature Quilt an entirely different vibe! Beautifully done!
Thanks! I agree – the red and white one from the book looks totally different from my gray and colorful quilt. It is amazing how different the same quilt can look – that’s why these book blog hops are so much fun.
Thanks so much for your kind words!
I LOVE this version!
Thanks so much! Appreciate your kind words and you stopping by.
Gorgeous quilt, spectacular quilting! I love your version in all those bright colors 🙂
Thank you so much! The Alison Glass prints were so much fun to work with.
Ann, this is incredible! I’m a bright color lover so your version really speaks to me! By the way . . . I don’t know why, but I thought I had been subscribed to your blog all this time but I’m sure I haven’t been getting your posts. So I resubscribed this morning. I’ve been missing out!
Thanks so much for (re) subscribing! Glad my quilt speaks to you – I really love working with bright colors too.
Thanks for stopping by!
Very. Ice! Allison glass looks great with that gray. And your quilting is awesome.
Thank you so much! I am really happy with how the gray worked, and with how the quilting came out.
Thanks so much for stopping by and for your kind words.
Oh mi gosh this is gorgeous! I’m in awe of the beautiful fabrics you chose for this totally rainbow quilt, and that free-motion quilting is stunning. At first I thought you must have done extensive marking, but upon close examination, realized you did dot-to-dot. All I can say is BRILLIANT! The secondary design is amazing.
Wow, thank you so much! Yep, all dot to dot…the only marking was to extend the lines off the edges of the quilt. It all took a long time to do, but it was fun and I love how it came out.
Thanks so much for your kind words and for stopping by!
What a gorgeous version of the quilt you have made. It’s funny that you decided to cut into your precious AG stash – me too! I really like the quilting you have done – it certainly makes the plusses pop.
I know – it is funny. I’ve been seeing the instagram photos of your quilt and was thinking it looked awfully familiar…only with a white background! The quilting on your quilt is just amazing – I will have to do some more studying of it soon!
Thanks so much for stopping by!
Yes, yes, yes! The original red-and-white version is classic, but I love how you took the approach to picking fabrics in a different direction. This could also be made even scrappier, with bits of precious fabric from different designers and lines. Enjoy this beautiful finish!
Wow, thank you! I agree the red on white is just awesome, but I love the colors. A scrappy version would be cool and really easy to do. It took a lot of background fabric, but very small pieces of color for the plusses. It would be very doable I think!
wow – your quilting is sensational – so nice!!!!
Thank you so much! Appreciate you stopping by and your kind words!
Absolutely delightful!
Thank you so much!
What a fabulous quilt and your colors are sparkling with that tonal grey background fabric. Nicely done and a wonderful hop, thanks for sharing your creativity.
Thanks so much! I do really like how the gray worked with the prints. Thanks for checking out the blog hop – I think there will be a bunch of really cool quilts to see.

The quilting is just perfect for this!!! Love your colorful version.
Thanks so much! I thought long and hard about how to quilt it and am really happy with how it came out.
A beautiful quilt – both in the choice of colors and the quilting. It makes me want to make one just like it. I actually think the gray background is much better than the white.
Thank you so much! It was fun to make – you should jump in and do it. I agree, the gray turned out much better than the white.
Let me know if you wind up making one too!
I love your colorful quilt!

Love your quilt and the quilting is AWESOME!!! Do you have an Innova…that’s what the handle looks like to me!!? You got a new follower because of this quilt!
Thanks so much! I’m so happy to have gained a new follower – I’ll need to make sure I keep making cool quilts! I have a HandiQuilter Avante – had it for about a year and a half. I’ve really enjoyed having it.
Do you have an Innova? A friend in my quilt guild has one and she loves it.
Thanks so much for stopping by, and for following me!
I just love how you quilted this! I also have a soft spot for the Alison Glass prints you used, great way to showcase these lovelies. LOL on the husband holder; I may have an outtake for my quilt ha!
Thank you so much! I think it was a great quilt to show off the Glass prints. I’ll be looking for that outtake! It is very nice of them to help us out, I think.
Have a good one, and thanks for stopping by.

Thank you so much! The Alison Glass fat quarter bundles I bought were fun to play with…and I’m happy I still have lots to work with!
Thanks for stopping by and for your kind words.
Love your blue background – it makes your colors pop!
Thanks so much. It is actually gray, but a textured/chambray gray so the color can look a little different in person versus in photos. I did love it as a background though because you are right, it did make the colors pop!
Thanks so much for stopping by!
Such a beutiful result. I particularly like how the quilting creates structure and draws the eye to the blocks.
Thank you so much. That was exactly my intent – do quilting that draws your eye to the colors of the plusses, as that is what I really wanted to stand out. Thanks for your kind words!
I LOVE THIS QUILT! Wonderful colors!
Thank you so much! I really appreciate your kind comments. I had a great time making the quilt and love the colors too!
Thanks for stopping by!
This is a spectacular quilt. The colors are beautiful and the quilting is so striking as well.

Congratulations on an absolutely stunning finish! Your quilting is just gorgeous! On behalf of the 2018 FAL hosts, thank you for finishing along with us.
Hi Izzy- thanks so much! I had fun with the quilting and am really happy with how it came out. Thanks for stopping by, and thanks for all your work hosting the FAL!
Beautiful quilt! Your Alison Glass fabrics worked so well for this pattern, and that grey makes them pop. Your quilting is gorgeous, and the quilt just sings! Congrats on a wonderful finish!
Hi Christina – thanks so much! I hoarded that fabric for a little while, but was really excited when I saw this pattern because I thought it would be great with the Alison Glass. And I had fun doing the quilting – I thought the secondary pattern made by the diagonal lines turned out well.
Thanks so much for your kind thoughts and for stopping by!
I love your quilt, it is gorgeous and your quilting is the perfect finishing touch!
Thank you so much!!
